In Episode 10 of Trigun
In May City, Vash becomes fast friends with the local children, except for one kid, Neil, who seems rather sullen. Vash tries to help Neil and finds Wolfwood at the restaurant where Neil's mother works. Wolfwood recruits Vash to participate in the town's quick draw contest to raise money for Neil's family. As the contest unfolds, Vash learns that it's not just target shooting, he actually has to duel. Wolfwood gets entered into the contest and is persuaded by the mayor to attempt to kill Vash for the reward money in order to save Neil's mom, who is being held hostage.
