In Episode 4 of Trigun
A group of outlaws rushes a bar and takes the mayor's daughter hostage, along with Milly and Meryl. As the mayor and the sheriff ponder strategies to recover the mayor's daughter, Vash casually walks into the place and miraculously avoids getting shot up by the outlaws. He learns from the head outlaw that the mayor is known as Grim Reaper Bostalk, a man with a corrupt past. Vash sympathizes and tries to negotiate, but Bostalk and the Sheriff send in a group of shady mercenaries in a rescue attempt.
